Today, I want to discuss another important topic: caring for sensitive skin…
Just like managing light acne, which I discussed in my previous email, understanding your skin’s unique needs can make a big difference in achieving healthy and radiant skin.
I know how challenging it is to manage sensitive skin, from understanding your skin’s unique needs to identifying the right products.
First, you need to identify if you have sensitive skin.
Sensitive skin often reacts negatively to common skincare ingredients and environmental factors.
If you have redness, itchiness, or stinging frequently after using skincare products, or areas of your skin that are consistently dry, flaky or rough…
Or even pimples or bumps that appear after using new products or makeup…
You likely have sensitive skin.
With sensitive skin, you want to do a patch test before incorporating new products into your routine.
First, you choose the test area. It is either your wrist, ear, or your elbow. Then, you take a small amount of product, put it on your wrist, or on your elbow, or behind your ears, and wait for 24-48 hours to see if there’s any reaction.
Do not wash off the product unless you experience severe irritation or discomfort.
Finally, you evaluate the result. If there are no signs of irritation during the testing period, it’s likely safe to use the product on your face or body.
If you stick to this approach with every product and use a light regimen that includes cleanser, toner, moisturizer and sunscreen, you’ll be setting your skin up for the least amount of irritation possible and allow your skin to start healing.
